The inspiration behind Garrick

Garrick was my first book and has a special place in my heart. It took well over a year to write and has been redrafted and rejigged more times than I care to count!

Garrick was inspired by Porton Down, an experimental British Government Facility. It is the site of the Ministry of Defense’s, Defense Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl)  known for over 100 years as one of the UK’s most secretive and controversial military research facilities.  I watched a BBC documentary on the lab and the military body armor they were working on using synthetic biology. That gave me the idea for Anna and her research incorporating alien biology and the story flowed from there!
